Double Jumble
By Soothing Sounds For Baby
Running Time:
72 mins. 55 secs.
The bulk of the SOUNDS' recorded history was produced by Matt Kaden (guitar) using
a TASCAM 4-track recorder. For some reason this 'low-fi' approach wound up being
the best sound they ever got ("Rollercoaster Rock") and in many ways provided them
with the perfect compliment to what their music represented -- which was
non-commercially. So it's interesting that they would've tampered with their
'proven formula' and allowed professionals to produce them using 'state of the
art' recording equipment.
But in the end, SOOTHING SOUNDS FOR BABY could never shake their 'raw' sound.
With edginess intact, "DOUBLE JUMBLE" (1988-1996) is a welcomed addition to
any post-punk collection, perhaps nestled somewhere between "DOUBLE NICKELS"
and the "MEAT PUPPETS II"!!
